From Loft's Music Shed...the Young Singer Songwriter Club...

...from Exeter Phoenix gave us some superb entertainment today.

 Listen here

Loft’s Music Shed run a selection of young singer songwriter workshops, clubs and courses for creative, imaginative and talented young people in the South West.
From Loft's Music Shed, esteemed musician Laura Loft runs a very popular club at Exeter Phoenix for young music makers who want to be songwriters.
From this group, Rebecca, Ebby, Jamie, Holly, Polly and Daisy looked in to entertain us today.
And - with Laura - a wonderful sound they all made.

The ensemble began with two well rehearsed covers, Little Talks and Oh Hey.

Holly and Polly (Blue Moon) sang and played their own composition Ashes
and Jamie gave us his self-penned song The Crime You Didn't Do.
Laura completed the entertainment with her song I Had A Plan.

Wonderful!! Thank you very much to all the singers and musicians.

Griselda Sanderson

Griselda Sanderson was our special guest on this week's rootsandshoots (Monday 24 September). This too was my farewell from the Phonic FM show and my chance to express my gratitude and say farewell to many people including my colleague Martin Henning, other fellow presenters, all the guests who have been on the show up to now and, of course, listeners. Once again, many, many thanks to you all. Enjoy rootsandshoots with Martin Henning and guests from now on.
Listen to the show here.    Also video by Cecil Hatfield here.

Martin Hodge

Pictures by  Cecil Hatfield with thanks.

Griselda Sanderson gave us a delicious Swedish Polska tune on her amazing nyckelharpa, the instrument you see in the pictures here. The nyckelharpa is a Swedish bowed, keyed fiddle with sympathetic strings.

Gris talked too about an exciting new agency she has set up to promote and support folk and world music acts based in South West England. Do check it out - it's a really worthwhile venture that starts with the recognition that in the south-west we have some top rate musicians from a wide range of cultures. Full details from Waulk Music.

Gris played two tracks, each from fellow artists represented by Waulk Music Agency: Amadou Diagne (track: Yakka - traditional Senegalese) and Tamaraneh (track: Pangamo).

Lovely to have you on the show, Gris!

Ben and Alfie

Sincere thanks to Ben and Alfie for joining us on rootsandshoots on Monday and for introducing us to songs from their forthcoming album No Measure.
Listen to the show here.

They are fantastic young musicians, storytellers and songwriters and we were not at all surprised that they have been invited to perform at the Young Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Read more about and listen to some of Ben and Alfie's music on their blog.

Ben and Alfie's songs were: Velvet Tongued Man, No Measure, Snowfall, After The Noise and For Good. We - and several listeners who got in touch - eagerly look forward to the release of the album.

Get well soon, Alfie! When your finger is fully healed, we'd love you and your brother to come back and play for us on Phonic FM.
