Alice Shiels live in the studio next Monday...

...which we are really looking forward to. Torquay-based Alice will play and sing for us and Martin Henning will be chatting with her. Read about Alice - and hear her too - here.

That was 2008

and Rich and I enjoyed the show we did yesterday. It was good that Pete Canter (soon, we trust, to host 200% Pure on Phonic FM) looked in to see us and have a twiddle with the controls. No emails - we just hope we had listeners! Martin Hodge

Many thanks to Jim Causley...

...who sang and played for us superbly and to all the merry wassailers: Lynn Walsh plus Gavin and Conrad Hodge. And, of course, to Martin Henning for his encouragement! Lynn got a bit more than she bargained for but will be eternally known as the woman who sang exquisitely with the world famous Jim Causley on the wireless.

Jim & Lynn pictured right. Click on pic for Jim's website

Jim sang (with his own accordian accompaniment and Lynn) The Sugar Wassail plus 1 other (Sorry, Jim, can't remember the name of it - let me know, if you see this!)

Roots and Shoots Seasonal Special

Next Monday 22 December we'll be having our own little party in the Phonic FM studio between 6 and 8pm and playing suitable ditties - most of which, we feel sure, you won't hear anywhere else on the radio.

We will have a special feature on Wassailing including music from Devon by Wren Music and Jim Causley pictured right: picture by Elizabeth Livermore: http://www.flickr.com/photos/evilibby/

Chris, Dave & Rich Live!

Many thanks to the fabulous musicians we squeezed into the studio: Chris Rudd (great you brought your bazouki, Chris: a beautiful clear-cut sound; an excellent choice of songs, wonderfully rendered) and then Dave Wood with guitar (a lovely set, Dave; superb singing and playing: sorry again for crawling round under you while you played - for technical enhancement, you understand!). Not forgetting our very own Rich accompanying Dave on frenetic bongos. As I said onair, I felt very priveleged to be at a concert just for me - though we do hope you listened too! Pictured Chris (above) Dave (below)
For us Chris performed Happy In The World and Apple For You, Eve. Dave did A Wager, A Wager plus Peggy Gordon plus JT/Becks/Cuba -the last set with Rich.

You can catch Chris's band Spin2 plus Dave Wood and Rich Cooke at Exeter Phoenix this Friday 19th December for a seasonal Concert to support the work of Exeter-based charity Magic Carpet
