Local legend Jerry Cahill...

...did a magnificent set for us on rootsandshoots this evening. Well done, Jerry. It was great too that Jerry stuck around for the rest of the show and gave us his input on some of the recordings we played. Jerry's live set consisted of The Enchanter, Levantines and Mermaid's Purse, all his own compositions. Towards the end of the show we squeezed one more out of him and he played the Scottish tune Jock O' Hazeldine.

Kimmie Rhodes interview plus Banned tracks and more

“Kimmie Rhodes: The soul of a poet and the voice of an angel.” Rodney Crowell

In celebration of her new album Miracles On Christmas Day, talented singer-songwriter Kimmie Rhodes from Texas is part way through a UK tour which includes Otterton Mill, Devon this Wednesday 8 December. We were delighted that Kimmie found time to talk to us live yesterday evening on rootsandshoots. She told us that this tour is proving very special as she is getting wonderful audiences and is singing seasonal songs in places where the wintery snow is all around. One sad piece of news is that, through ill health, her husband Joe Gracey has been unable to accompany her but she is so happy to have her talented son Gabe with her. We thank Kimmie very much and wish her every success with her continuing tour.

Further information on Kimmie Rhodes' website.

Texan connection

Listen in to rootsandshoots this Monday 6 December for the usual varied mix of global sounds. We'll be including music from - and a live interview with - Kimmie Rhodes.

Kimmie is from Texas and is on tour in the UK accompanied by husband Joe Gracey and son Gabriel Rhodes. They'll be performing at Otterton Mill on Wednesday 8 December at 8pm. Kimmie's latest album is called Miracles On Christmas Day. Here's a quote about her from famous singer Emmylou Harris: "Kimmie has the voice of a beautiful child coming from an old soul".
